FIVA contains a large variety of high ORAC value ingredients, providing you with optimal levels of antioxidants that would be difficult to get on your own.
What exactly does this mean?
ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) is a unit value assigned by researchers to measure the antioxidant value of a given food. ORAC provides a superb method of determining the overall antioxidant potency of foods. Foods with a high ORAC value are beneficial to the body by increasing plasma antioxidant levels, thereby protecting the cells and their components from damage by oxygen radicals.
What are oxygen radicals?
Why do we want to absorb them? Oxygen radicals are chemicals inside our bodies that are a normal everyday part of living. But, even though we all have these oxygen radicals, they do tremendous damage to our cells and are responsible form many health related issues. They are particularly responsible for the AGING process of our bodies. They do this damage by a process called oxidation.
Oxidation is a natural process that occurs around us all the time. One example of oxidation is rusting. When metal rusts it becomes brittle and weak. It no longer does its job of providing strength and support. Oxidation does the same thing IN YOUR BODY! Just like a rusting beam, the cells, organs, and other parts of your body are weakened by oxidation. This can lead to diseases, and premature aging. If our bodies can absorb and stop these oxygen radicals before they do damage, then they can’t harm us.
How can I stop this oxidation damage from happening in my body?
One of the best ways to stop oxidation is by “raising our ORAC”. ORAC measures how many oxygen radicals a specific food can absorb. The more oxygen radicals a food can absorb, the higher its ORAC score. The higher its ORAC score, the better it is at helping our bodies fight diseases and prevent premature aging.
So, why are fruits and vegetables so good for our bodies?
Obviously, lots of reasons, but most relevant is the antioxidant value. One of the key common denominators between all the chronic degenerative diseases is, again, "free radical" damage. Consumption of antioxidants from fruits, vegetables, and berries helps to prevent and reduce this type of oxidative damage.
How many ORAC units should we consume?
We need to have at least 3000 ORAC units per day to adequately saturate our tissues with antioxidants to reap the benefits of preventing free radical damage. Shockingly, 80% - 90% of people in the world do not consume even half of the needed ORAC units per day.
The 'ORAC' for FIVA is not just high for a single serving, it is astoundingly high, with one serving having 3717 'ORAC units'.
How does FIVA Compare?
1 packet FIVA = 3717 ORAC units (a whopping 37,170 per 100 g)
